Description
The Wife of Bath's Prologue and Tale reveal Chaucer both as an author deeply involved in the controversy about the nature of women and as a master in the art of strategy. Among poststructuralist attempts to discern the unreliable and conflicting layers of meaning arranged by his/her texts, feminist critical contribution remains crucial. This article tries to provide a narratological approach to the Wife's accounts in order to show how Alice of Bath's utterances surpass the misogynous tenets on which they rest and replace the author's strategical posts with her committed substantial dynamism. **********
